How to Select the Best Christmas Tree Lights for Your Holiday Tree
If you are like me, selecting the best Christmas lights for your tree is the least of your concerns. I am generally more concerned with making sure the tree doesn't fall out of the stand and is reasonably straight. However, there are a lot of choices in the market now for Christmas tree lights and there are a few things you should consider when making your selection.
LED Christmas Lights v Incandescent Christmas Lights
LED Christmas lights have a number of advantages over standard incandescent Xmas lights. LED lights are highly efficient and the lights use about 90% less energy than incandescent lights. This should certainly be a consideration when making a purchase; however, if you are only using a few strings the cost savings probably won't add up quickly enough. Fortunately, there are also other advantages of LED holiday lights. The two biggest advantages of LED lights for small holiday displays related to the safety and durability advantages the LED lights offer. One of the reasons LED Christmas lights are so efficient is because they waste little energy in the form of heat. As a result, the lights remain cool to the touch even after several hours (or days) of illumination. The cool operating temperature of LED holiday lights make them safer for interior applications. In addition, because the lights draw so little power the risk of overloaded electrical circuits is significantly reduced. LED holiday lights are also much more durable than incandescent lights because they contain no glass. The bulbs (or lenses) which cover the LED lamp are constructed of a epoxy plastic that is nearly impossible to break. With the durable bulb covers and super-efficient LED bulbs, a high quality set should last for 50,000 hours or more.
Selecting the best bulb style for your Christmas tree lights
Selecting a Christmas light bulb style used to be easy, there were two choices: mini lights or the larger C9 style bulbs. Now there are a variety of bulb styles to choose from, including Christmas mini lights, raspberry style G12, wide angle lights, and strawberry style C6 lights. So which are the best lights for your Christmas tree? This is a difficult question to answer because a large part of the answer to this question has to do with personal preference. However, there are a few general rules of thumb that can help you select the best bulb style for your tree.
- Select a large style bulb only if you have a large tree
- The wide angle LED lights or Christmas mini lights will produce the most evenly diffused and brilliant light
- The C6 strawberry lights and G12 raspberry lights will be more visible on the tree but will produce a softer light
The best color lights for your Christmas tree
Selecting the right color for your Christmas tree lights should be the easiest part because it is entirely subjective: choose the colors you like best. Aside from this advise, we can offer a few other things to consider:
- Warm white Christmas lights will create a traditional and classic look
- Pure white Christmas lights used alone will create a brighter and more striking appearance
- If you choose colored Christmas lights be sure to stick with a multi-colored set or stay with complimentary colors.
